DMUTE.

Is a messaging application for deaf and mute people that explores Kinetic Typography, machine learning, and emotional expression.

There are approximately 360 million people who are suffering from hearing loss and 70 million people are deaf and mute according to the World Federationof Deaf (WFD).

DMUTE offers a unique way for deaf and mute individuals to communicate with their friends and family members privately, securely, and expressively. With its kinetic typography feature providing emotional depth to conversations, it will allow these individuals to connect on a deeper level than ever before!

DMUTE was incepted as a part of the Thesis for my Master’s in Visual Experience Design.

The user is routed to the onboarding of the application after logging in and filling up the other necessary information. As part of the onboarding process, the user is taken on a visual tour of the product and told what to anticipate. It also demonstrates the main functions of the app and how it offers a distinctive means of self-expression.

Onboarding

The app works by allowing users to add movement and animation to their messages. Users may select from a variety of various emotional tabs that will create animations on the text. The user types in the message normally, just as they would in other social messaging apps, when utilizing the messaging tool. Once the message has been entered, the user may send the message as an animated text that displays that emotion to the recipient by just tapping on the emotional tab that best captures theirfeelings or mood.

The Messaging

A deaf or mute person can have an effective and expressive discussion with anyone by using the Live Mode, a live transcriber mode enabled by AI to identify emotions from speech.

The Live Mode takes advantage of the most recent AI-powered emotion recognition technologies. This will make it possible for someone who is deaf or mute to communicate expressively with anyone, regardless of whether they are familiar with sign language or not.
